Shaqiri: North Macedonia is a leader in the region in the process of digitalization
Podgorica, October 13th, 2021
The Minister of Information Society and Administration, Dr. Jeton Shaqiri, is part of the Digital Summit organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) in Podgorica.
This is Minister Shaqiri's second visit to Podgorica in the last four months - after the meeting in June, which marked the start of roaming-free in six Western Balkan countries - North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We are here again in Podgorica, as part of regional cooperation within the Berlin Process, in order to further boost digitalization in the public sector. Now is the moment that we have achieved with a lot of effort - more projects in our country, for which I can freely say that we are leaders in the region in the process of digitalization," said the Minister of MISA, Dr. Jeton Shaqiri at the Summit.
At this Summit, Minister Shaqiri and his colleagues from 6 Western Balkan countries (WB6) referred to the further intensification of activities aimed at implementing digital identity and data exchange, as one of the fundamental freedoms.
"The exchange of data is as important as the movement of people, goods and services. The digital identity will enable every citizen access to all the services from public institutions, private companies, banks, various economic operators at any time, just as we have smartphones at hand at any time. The digital identity, in cooperation with the countries of the region, and afterwards with the EU countries, will enable our citizens to be European citizens in every sense of the word - to receive all services not only from our institutions, but also from the institutions and economic operators in these countries," emphasized Shaqiri.
MISA and I, as a minister, he added, insist that by the end of 2021 we shall adopt a Law that will create the Agency for Digitalization, a central institution that will be merged in one place - public network infrastructure, state data center, all electronic services of state administration bodies, approximately more than 1000.
"All services provided by any institution, will be obtained electronically. This applies to all services for citizens, but also for businesses. This means happier citizens, a better investment climate, new jobs, increased transparency and a direct fight against corruption. This is not a small thing!", underlined Shaqiri.
Moreover, yesterday, MISA and the Ministry of Finance, following a previous conclusion of the Government, at the request of Minister Shaqiri, reached an agreement regarding MISA’s draft budget for 2022, which will increase investment in digital transformation by about 500%, thus the use on paper will belong to the past. Our society will be digital, whilst the environment will be green.
